We’ve all heard the old saying that slow and steady wins the race, but there is much to be said about taking the hare’s approach to your workout routine with interval training. Interval training is not only a great way to build speed and endurance, according to the American College of Sports Medicine; it is also a great way to burn more calories in a short amount of time. In fact, research shows that interval training increases fitness and burns more calories over a short period of time than steady-state cardio, turning the tortoise and the hare story on its head!
So what is interval training? Interval training combines short, high intensity bursts of speed, with slow, recovery phases, working both aerobic and anaerobic systems. For example, sprint for 1 minute, then jog for 2 minutes and repeat for 30 minutes.
TRUE Fitness offers interval programming for weight loss, HRC training, and performance training. Programming is console specific—so ask your local Gym Source sales manager about the available programming available on your console choices.
Improve your pace with pace intervals or work on your cardio with hill intervals each found on select TRUE consoles. Whether your goal is to burn the most amount a calories for improved weight loss, or build up your endurance for better performance, TRUE has you covered with an interval workout program.
For the ultimate personalized interval training, check out TRUE’s innovative HRC Interval programming on the Transcend™ and Escalate™ Consoles. To begin, set your desired target heart rates for your active/work intervals and your rest intervals. The workout begins in manual control, so gradually increase your work level until your heart rate is within 10 BPM of your active/work target. At this point, the machine takes control of the work level to maintain your heart rate within a few beats of your target during your work interval and reduce to 65% intensity during rest intervals automatically for the entire workout.
One major advantage of the HRC interval program over more generic interval programs is that in TRUE’s HRC program, the machine is adjusting based on feedback from you—and if you need more, it gives you more.
Interval training can be incorporated into any fitness routine, whether that includes running, walking, cycling, or using an elliptical trainer so hop on your favorite TRUE Fitness treadmill, elliptical, or bike and start your interval training today.
