We’ve all heard the old saying that slow and steady wins the race, but there is much to be said about taking the hare’s approach to your workout routine with interval training. Interval training is not only a great way to build speed and endurance, according to the American College of Sports Medicine; it is also a great way to burn more calories in a short amount of time. In fact, research shows that interval training increases fitness and burns more calories over a short period of time than steady-state cardio, turning the tortoise and the hare story on its head!

So what is interval training? Interval training combines short, high intensity bursts of speed, with slow, recovery phases, working both aerobic and anaerobic systems. For example, sprint for 1 minute, then jog for 2 minutes and repeat for 30 minutes.
