Recently, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) sponsored a training study to determine the benefits of kettlebell training. ACE enlisted researchers at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Department of Exercise and Sport Science to conduct the study, and the results were very positive.
Researchers found that participants who trained with kettlebells significantly improved their aerobic capacity, leg press strength, grip strength, dynamic balance and core strength. ACE had expected the increase in strength, but the improvements in aerobic function (a 13.8% increase on average) and dynamic balance were unexpected bonuses. The most dramatic benefit was a 70% increase in abdominal core strength. ACE’s ‘official’ conclusion? Kettlebells kick butt!
